Flumazenil for Benzodiazepine Reversal in Electroconvulsive Therapy: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for severe depression. Sedating drugs ("benzodiazepines") are often used in ECT-patients for relief of anxiety and sleep problems. However, these drugs may interfere negatively with ECT’s therapeutic effects in the brain. In this randomized controlled trial, we will compare two pharmacological strategies to solve this problem and investigate how these strategies influence the activity of the brain after ECT.
