Glial-mediated pathways for neuronal rescue in a neurodegenerative disease
Københavns Universitet
Huntington’s disease (HD) is characterized by neuronal degeneration in medium spiny neurons. Importantly, glia are primary contributors to the pathology of HD, and replacement of sick glia in HD mice with healthy human glia leads to significant improvements in cognition, behavior, neuronal homeostasis, and survival. However, the specific mechanisms by which glia support neighboring neurons are not clear, and here we propose to identify the specific mechanisms by which glia support is maintained.
