Mechanisms of addiction: Cocaine- and modafinil-driven adaptations of dopaminergic release sites

Københavns Universitet

Substance use disorder is a major global health issue, with cocaine and other stimulants driving a rise in economic burden and mortality. This project investigates how repeated cocaine exposure alters the structure and function of dopamine-releasing nerve endings in the brain. Using super-resolution imaging, machine learning and advanced molecular profiling in mice, it aims to identify changes that drive addiction and relapse, helping to reveal new targets for treating substance use disorder.
