Why is memory for music special? Uncovering the brain mechanisms underlying musical mnemonics

Aarhus University

Music has long been used to aid learning and memory, from oral traditions to nursery rhymes. However, the brain mechanisms behind this are not well understood. Using advanced neuroimaging and computational techniques, I aim to uncover how the brain learns, stores, and remembers songs. Conducted at the Interactive Dynamics of Episodic Memory Lab at New York University, this project will reveal why memory for music is special and inform music-based therapies for memory disorders.
